The head teacher of Nyairicha Special School Richard Mogoa has appealed for help from well-wishers as the institution is on the verge of shutting down.
He said sometimes the pupils eat only one meal in a day because of shortage of food.
“Most parents dump their children here and never return because they fear being associated with children who are living with disability,” he said, asking them to change their attitudes and treat them like their abled counterparts.

He asked anybody having any foodstuff ranging from maize, beans, bananas and potatoes to deliver them to the school to enable the pupils complete the term successfully.
His deputy Cecilia Mogusu narrated the challenges the pupils undergo as they lack basic needs like toilet soap, sanitary towels and bedding.
She appealed to anybody willing to offer voluntary services like washing bedding and clothes to come to the school and help them with those chores.
“Some of these girls living with disability face extra challenges at their puberty stage,” she said, suggesting that if they are shown love, they are aroused to exploit their talent and realize their potential in sports.
She appealed to Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo to visit the school and see how he can motivate the pupils and staff to have hope in life.
“The governor is a parent like anybody else; he should visit us and demonstrate his love as a father to all in the county,” she said, thanking churches for the regular visits they pay them for spiritual enrichment.
