South Rift varsity students demand an end to lecturers’ strike

University students from the South Rift have demanded an end to the lecturers’ strike, asking the government to urgently address the issues surrounding it for them to resume studies.

Led by Mercy Kirwa, they said the strike has disrupted their learning and cost them their time and money as they have already paid rents expecting the strike to end for learning to resume.

“This strike has disrupted our learning and some of us will be forced to defer our studies. This is unacceptable and as comrades we are telling the government to end this problem,” Kirwa said.

Speaking in Nakuru, she said it was shameful that learning has been paralysed in public universities when the same is running smoothly in private institutions.

Kirwa noted that it was worrying that several weeks after the strike started, the government had not shown any seriousness to look into the issues, a situation she said is unacceptable.
