A sombre mood has engulfed Shibinga village in Shianda Sub- county Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County following the death of a Grade 3 learner who died from malaria.
The 7-year-old Princess Jane Osundwa was treated at a private hospital, but the situation deteriorated and was transferred to Mumias Mission Hospital where she passed on two hours later upon arrival.
The late Princess Jane was a learner at St Isaac Township at Shianda area and was a first-born child of Jacklyn Makana and Vitalis Namayo.

“When I took my daughter to the private hospital she was diagnosed with malaria illness, she did not show any signs of improvement even as she was transferred to Mumias Mission Hospital. I cannot talk much, my daughter is gone,” the grieving mother said.
Residents said cases of malaria have become rampant leading to death of underage children.
