A somber mood engulfed Bermuda Estate, located on the outskirts of Kisii, following the tragic death of a female student who fell into a pit latrine while answering a nature call.
Celine Nyangweso, 24, lost her life in her rental house at the estate on Friday around 10am. According to the estate’s rental records, Nyangweso was a student at Kisii National Polytechnic at the time of her death.

When the residents discovered the tragedy, which was reportedly caused by the collapsing pit latrine, they called the police for assistance; however, it was too late to save her.
On Saturday morning, the Kisii County disaster management team retrieved her body and transported it to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The administration of Kisii National Polytechnic described Nyangweso as a very promising student, and her untimely death has left many in shock.
Kisii County police chief Charles Keses confirmed the sudden death and stated that the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of her death.
