Siaya county allocates over Ksh750M to enhance education sector

Siaya County has set aside over Ksh750 million for the improvement of devolved education functions, library services and gender and youth affairs.

According to an excerpt from a summary of proposed Annual Development Plans (ADP) 2025/2026 by the Budget and Appropriations Committee seen by Education News, the County is set to enhance the education docket cutting across ECDEs, Polytechnics and VTCs and capacity building of trainers in the institutions.

In the proposed development plans on education, the county has prioritized the remuneration of existing staff at Ksh202,533,965 and the provision of bursary support at Ksh120,000,000.

The plan also seeks to see the recruitment of an additional 100 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers at a cost of Ksh40,000,000 and the recruitment of 55 polytechnic instructors at Ksh24,420,000. The ECDE and VTCs centers will be integrated with ICT at cost of Ksh4.5 million.  

The 100 ECDE centers across the county will also benefit from equipping with furniture at Ksh7 million while Ksh28 million will be used to provide learning materials to the centres. Provision of recreational facilities to 70 ECDEs will cost Ksh49 million.

The development plan also seeks to construct 10 new ECDE centers at Ksh45 million including upgrading one center to a model center at Ksh20 million.

The provision of 50,000 digital learning gadgets to ECDE centers will cost Ksh15 million shillings while the school feeding program in all centers has been allocated Ksh140 million.

For the improvements in VTCs across Siaya County, the county will undertake construction of workshops, classrooms and administration blocks at a cost of Ksh34 million while renovations of polytechnics and VTCs will cost 3 million shillings.

Equipping of youth polytechnics and VTCs with modern tools and equipment has been allocated 6 million shillings while provision of teaching and instructional materials to polytechnics and VTCs will benefit from Ksh16 million. The plan also seeks to see construction and operationalization of 2 new VTC centers at a cost of Ksh20 million.

The registration, demarcation and acquisition of title deeds for 4 VTCs has been allocated Ksh1 million while the support to trainees through the SVTCSG funding has been allocated Ksh29.400,000.

The education department will also get one vehicle at Ksh9,000,000 while enactment of policies and legislations have been allocated Ksh3,000,000.
