Showdown looms as Bungoma, Musingu, and Vihiga schools secure spots in regional rugby games

The battle for rugby supremacy in the Western region intensified over the weekend as Bungoma High School, Musingu Boys, and Vihiga High School emerged victorious in their respective county championships. They booked their spots in the highly anticipated Western Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One Games.

In Bungoma County, Bungoma High School stamped its dominance with a 44-6 demolition of Kamusinde High School in the final played at Friends School Kamusinga.

Bungoma had earlier dispatched Kimobo 27-13 in the semifinals. Kamusinde High made a statement with a crushing 50-0 victory over Bokoli.

Bungoma High and Kamusinde secured qualification for the regional showdown with their top finishes.

Meanwhile, in Kakamega County, Musingu Boys High School clinched the title with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over St Peters Boys High School Mumias in a tense final held at Eregi Teachers Training College.

Neither side was willing to concede in the defensive battle, but Musingu ultimately edged their rivals to claim top honours.

They overcame Butere Boys 12-6 in the semifinals, while St Peters Mumias edged Kakamega School 3-0.

Butere Boys secured third place after a gritty 13-11 win over Kakamega School in the playoffs. Musingu Boys and St Peters Mumias advance to the Western Region Games with their top-two finishes.

In a related development, Vihiga High reigned supreme, shutting out Senende 17-0 in a dominant final performance.

Their path to the title saw them overpower Chavakali Boys 22-8 in the semifinals, while Senende edged past Gamalenga 17-10.

Chavakali Boys bounced back to secure third place with a commanding 22-0 victory over Gamalenga in the playoff.

With the county titles now decided, attention shifts to the Western Region Games, where these formidable teams will battle for supremacy and a chance to stake their claim as the region’s best.

The competition promises high-intensity clashes as the road to national glory takes shape.
