The police in Homabay have arrested seven suspects over the alleged murder of a fourth-year student at Tom Mboya University.
According to Homabay County Police Commander Hassan Barua, the seven suspects, who are workers at Hotel Dalawa in Homabay County, beat the student when he entered the hotel and left him for dead. He was rushed to the hospital by Good Samaritans, where he died shortly after arrival.
“We have arrested the seven suspects, among them three women, who are assisting the security officers with the investigation,” he said.
Arujo location Chief Bob Lango said that the male student had developed mental disturbances. He was seen roaming around Homabay town, harassing businessmen. At one point, he invaded a petrol station and tried to seize the pipe from the pump attendant, as he seemed to be out of his senses. However, they restrained him and sent him away.
He then entered a motorbike shop and stripped himself naked as he moved from one corner of the shop to another. The frightened shop operators pushed him out of the building, and he moved to Homabay town’s Central Business District (CBD), where he shouted and cried uncontrollably.

Confused, he left the Central Business District for the Delaware Hotel, where he started smashing hotel items, including window glasses, the TV screen, and tables.
The embittered workers allegedly held him, tying both his hands and legs, and flogged him. He collapsed and was taken to Homabay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“The body was preserved at the hospital to await identification of the next of kin,” said the police boss.
He asked the public to be tolerant with one another during this time of Christmas festivities, saying that the police would carry out a thorough investigation to do justice to the allegedly slain student.
