Schools in Malava sub-county are set to benefit from a school bus initiative courtesy of the constituency’s National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF).

The initiative, conceived by MP Malulu Injendi, has been lauded by area education stakeholders as a way to improve learner enrolment and performance.

While commissioning a multipurpose hall at Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Namagara Secondary school in Manda Shivanga ward, Malulu said he was concerned with the many schools that did not have school buses for their education, sporting and even social usage.

“We received many requests from our schools concerning buses and through our CDF, we have managed to secure the first batch of three buses which we will issue to St. Anthony Kakoyi, St. Patricks Bukhakunga and Friends Bulupi. Chimoroni and Shamoni Secondary are next. Namagara Secondary and Samitsi Girls will receive theirs in next year’s budget allocation,” he said.

Malulu requested other schools which have requested for buses to be patient and urged Principals to give proposals based on their schools’ priorities as well.

“I know a bus is good motivation for students and staff but let us not prefer a bus when you do not have enough classrooms and laboratories for practicals,” he said.

The new Multi-purpose Hall opened by Malava MP, Malulu Injendi recently.

He assured school managers that his office was working round the clock to ensure that each school has a CDF-sponsored project as a way of equal distribution of resources.

Namagara Secondary Principal Judy Luvaha said that the school is among the top performing in the sub-county and needs the bus for educational tours which will see them post even better performance.

“With a growing population currently at 1,009, we actually need a bus to comfortably conduct our games and education programmes without any hitch considering that hiring a bus is far more expensive,” he said.

We are grateful for the multi-purpose hall and we will continue to post good grades and aim to be the best in the constituency.

“Our challenge however is a ballooning wage bill from 19 BoM teachers as we only have 18 TSC teachers. We ask Malulu to assist us get more teachers, construct a twin laboratory, and construct an administration block,” he added.

Malulu was also hailed for aiding needy students through bursary allocation, a gesture that has seen many students stay in school.
