Schools affected by floods to receive textbooks, exercise books

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has revealed that schools where learning materials were destroyed will receive new textbooks and exercise books ahead of the school opening on Monday.

The CS said this during his visit at Karen C Girls Secondary School in Langata, Nairobi County on Thursday, May 9, 2024 where he led the team to assess the extent of damage to school infrastructure a head of the reopening of schools on Monday.

“Once we get the report on the specific schools that are affected by the floods, we will be able to provide and supply the necessary textbooks or exercise books which might have been destroyed during the flooding,” Machogu noted.

He urged the parents not to fear to take their kids to schools during the school reopening, saying the government had assessed the situation and established that it is “manageable”.

“What we are getting from the experts is that we won’t have as much rain as we have had before. If anything, the situation is only improving all over the country,” the CS said.

This comes just a few days after President William Ruto on Monday promised a KSh1 billion to cater for rehabilitation of schools which have been hit hard by the floods across the country as the government looks to ensure that  all schools reopen on Monday, 13, 2024 as directed by the head of State.
