Mukuyuni Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary in Makueni has been offering second chances to girls who have dropped out of school or become pregnant, allowing them to continue their education post-birth.
The school principal Reuben K Musyoki noted that many choose this school for fear of going back to their institutions.
“We have quite a number who drop from other schools for fear of going back to the

the same school, they come here,” said the principal.
In addition to supporting girls, the school also helps boys, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds near Mukuyuni market.
He emphasized the school’s mission to help both genders navigate their academic and non-academic challenges, leading to notable transformations and achievements.
Last year, the school registered 185 candidates, with 16 qualifying for university, including a girl who was given a second chance scoring a B minus. Last year, the mean score improved to 4.1, up from 3.8 in KCSE 2023.
The supportive environment, characterized by guidance and understanding, allows students to thrive without resorting to disruptive behaviours.

Deputy Principal Stella Mumama highlighted the school’s excellent discipline, even during widespread unrest in other schools. With parents’ and teachers’ support, students engage in weekend revisions at the school to enhance their performance.
The school excels in co-curricular activities, such as reaching the regional level in music.
While the school has sufficient classrooms, it lacks a dining hall. Its location offers advantages, including access to a nearby hospital and community support, though proximity to the market poses risks.
The school is committed to transforming the lives of its students through education and support.
