Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang’ has warned school heads against imposing illegal fees for remedial classes, especially during this period when candidates are preparing for KCPE and KCSE examinations.
He said that this amounts to burdening parents, most of who are struggling due to the current challenging economic times.
“We cannot explain why we need extra hours in the name of remedial teaching,” Kipsang’ said.
Dr. Kipsang’ was speaking during a meeting with field education officials together with their National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) counterparts on Tuesday at Shimo La Tewa Secondary School in Mombasa.
The PS reiterated that the amount of time prescribed for teaching by the Ministry is sufficient for skills, competencies and knowledge to apply in tackling examinations.
