Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ has called on school heads to allow pupils transiting to Grade 7 to freely move there without too many demands and restrictions.
He says that the learners should just be allowed to report back to school even if their parents have not yet got all the requirements for their readmission into Junior Secondary School (JSS).
The lawmaker said they want to see 100 per cent transition in all schools that have JSS sections, saying that the heads should not insist on things that will limit and inhibit the learners’ access to education.
Ochieng’ made the remarks during the launch of this year’s Ugenya Scholarship Programme at Sega Township Primary School.
Sihayi Division Assistant County Commissioner Jonathan Kiptoo echoed the sentiments, calling on Grade 7 learners who are yet to report back to school to ensure they do so.
He directed chiefs and their assistant to mop up the villages to ensure that not one of them remains at home.
During that exercise, Ugenya Sub-county Director of Education Margaret Odiembo revealed that all the primary schools in the sub-county now have JSS sections after the remaining five which had applied to be given the nod were approved.
