Namunyweda Secondary School board of management has urged the area education department to move with speed and transfer the school Principal they allege has embezzled over Sh 300, 000 meant for development.
The school is located in Bwiri Ward, Samia Sub-County in Funyula Constituency of Busia County.
Speaking to Education News at the learning institution on Tuesday, barely a day after schools reopened for the third and final term, the enraged board members who had locked the controversial school head and a section of teachers from accessing the school accused the head of engaging in corrupt deals, underrating and failing to consult them on crucial issues pertaining to the running of the school.
The enraged parents and the school BOM had also claimed that the school head teacher had, apart from embezzling the money donated to the school by the Funyula NG-CDF committee headed by area MP Wilberforce Mudenyo, failed to adhere to the directive of the Ministry of Education by failing to call a board meeting since his transfer to the school in April this year.
Other accusations levelled against the Principal included utilizing and spending the school funds without involving the school board of management to authorize the spending, terming the move as “outright arrogance and disrespect to the school board of management.
“The school head has been rude to us (BOM) and whenever we ask him to call a meeting to direct him on what to do, he is ever reluctant. He is also being at frequent loggerheads with the non-teaching staff without sparing the school board of management,” they said.
The school management team was led by the school’s PTA chairman Paul Busuda, BOM vice chairman Raphael Bubolu, infrastructure committee chairperson Modesta Akoth and disciplinary committee chairperson Bethlet Nekesa among others.
“We are urging Samia Sub County Education Department to move with speed and relocate the said principal Mr. Antony Okisai at once or else we shall be forced to take over the running of the school so as to put things in the right direction,” they said.
Other reasons for calling for the immediate removal of the school head include the failure to work closely with the school board of management to plan how to improve the school’s academic performance which was officially established in 2014 yet the school has never taken even a single student to the university.
However, when reached for comment, the School Principal rubbished the allegations by the school board of management saying they are just out to tarnish his name for no apparent reason.
“I haven’t embezzled any school fund as claim. I want to take this opportunity to warn them against tarnishing my name,” said the Principal.
