Sorrow and shock gripped Kenyenya Primary School in Kisii County as teachers, pupils, and the local community learned of the sudden death of their headteacher, Mary Nyabonyi. The late headteacher passed away at Moi Eldoret Teaching and Referral Hospital on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
Her husband, Pr. Albert Ogembo, confirmed the sad news. “We took her to the hospital for advanced medication, but unfortunately, she passed on, leaving us in shock and sadness,” he said.
The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior Pastor offered words of comfort, encouraging the family and children to remain hopeful during this time of mourning. He reminded them that death would one day be conquered by Jesus Christ when He returns to Earth for the second time. “We believe in resurrection after death; let us not lose faith, even when we lose our beloved ones,” he said.
Colleagues of the deceased from the Kenyenya zone remembered her as a loving headteacher with strong leadership qualities. Onsoti Mang’aa, a former member of the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) in Kenyenya, joined other teachers to mourn her passing. “I have known Madam Mary for a long time, and she discharged her duties with professional decorum,” he remarked.
