In a significant stride towards enhancing digital literacy, three local school Misuuni, Miumbuni, and Kwale in Kathiani Sub-county have received essential tech equipment, including 21 laptops, computers and a printer courtesy of a generous donation from Kiserian Rotary Group.
The donation aims to provide students with hands-on access to digital resources and foster a culture of digital learning from an early age.
The county government has expressed a strong commitment to embedding digital literacy into the curriculum, ensuring that learners are well-equipped with essential 21st century skills.
Parents and teachers were urged to take special care of these devices to maximize their impact and extend their lifespan.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Jonathan Makau, Director of Administration from the county’s Department of Education, emphasized the importance of integrating digital skills at all educational levels.
“We are living in a digital era and there is planning underway within the education department to incorporate digital learning with our ECDE learner. We are also working to equip our ECDE teachers with the knowledge to use these gadgets effectively, passing on digital skills to the children,” he said.

The county has made impressive strides not only in digital education but also in increasing enrollment in ECDE centres, thanks to the school feeding programme.
According to Makau, there are currently 1,097 ECDE centres in the county, serving as critical foundation for early learning. Enrollment in these centres has surged from 37,000 to 43,000 since the launch of a county-supported feeding programme.
The programme, aimed at enhancing nutrition and ensuring no child goes hungry, has also played a significant role in encouraging parents to enroll their young ones.
