Rongo University promotes academic integrity during examination periods to ensure genuine results in future jobs. The university observed that integrity was maintained during the exams that ended recently.
Firstly, the use of technology. We have strategically installed surveillance cameras in examination halls and around the school. This not only ensures that students do their own work without cheating but also provides a sense of reassurance to all stakeholders about the fairness of the examination process. The technology also prevents students from entering the examination rooms with unnecessary materials, upholding integrity and honesty.
Secondly, we have significantly improved exam supervision. Rongo University has increased the number of supervisors and invigilators during the exams, thereby reducing opportunities for cheating. This rigorous supervision includes checking students before entering the exam rooms and ensuring they have the necessary equipment, such as exam cards and school IDs. This has significantly minimized the rate of cheating and ensured that the right student sits for the right exam, instilling confidence in the examination process.
In addition, promoting academic integrity. Dons from the institution ensure that they educate students on the importance of honesty and its significance for personal and professional growth. By doing this, many students show positivity and even practice it by changing pessimistic students about exam cheating.
Furthermore, strengthening examination policies. The institution has developed a clear, strict, and transparent academic integrity policy. This includes communicating the policies regularly to students and enforcing severe penalties for cheating, like suspension or expulsion, depending on the case.
Moreover, we have designed a conducive examination environment that is crucial to ensuring students do not collaborate or discuss during examinations. This has been achieved by arranging seats to ensure adequate space between students and by restricting electronic devices in the examination rooms. These measures provide a secure and controlled environment for examinations, ensuring the integrity of the process.
Academic pressure
In addition, addressing root causes. academic pressure can be a root cause of cheating, and this can be mitigated by adopting a flexible grading system and adequate preparation time for the students before exams. In addition, students promote academic integrity through peer mentorship programs and various clubs in the schools, where they share their experiences and strategies for maintaining integrity.
Lastly, anonymous reporting systems. The institution should ensure that it creates channels for students and staff to report cheating anonymously. It should also ensure that reported cases are investigated fairly and transparently to avoid biases, minimizing the prevalence of exam cheating.
