Rise of grade E in 2024 KCSE in Nakuru schools sparks concern

Education stakeholders in Nakuru County are concerned with the large number of candiadtes who scored grade E in 2024 KCSE.

The stakeholders said that measures should be put in place to eradicate grade E among secondary school students in the county.

According to the statistics from Nakuru County Education office, over 4700 candidates who sat for KCSE in 2024 scored a grade E, 10,895 D-, 8488 D and 5829 students registered D+.

Also, over 30,076 students translating to 66.48 per cent of the students who wrote last year’s KCSE in Nakuru County scored grade D+ and below.

“We are very concerned as education stakeholder in Nakuru County about high number of candidates who scored E. Some 4700 students scoring a grade E is a serious matter. We will ensure we put adequate measures in place jointly with parents, teachers and students in all 11 sub counties to eradicate this grade,” said Nakuru County Director of Education Victoria Mulili.

The Director said that 8106 students representing 17.9 per cent of students who sat for 2024 KCSE in the county bagged grades C- and C with the former having 4476 students and the latter 3630 students.

She said that the students who registered grade C and C- will enrol for courses in TVET.

She added that 7296 students which represent 16.12 per cent of the students attained university entry mark.

Some 57 students scored A, 310 A-, 651 B+, 1384B, 2015B- and 2879 C+ in the county.

The Director said that some of the top schools in Nakuru were Kabarak High (Rongai Sub-county), Utumishi Boys (Gilgil), Anestar Boys (Nakuru North), Nakuru High (Nakuru East), Nakuru Girls (Nakuru East) Goshen Boys (Nakuru North) Utumishi Girls (Gilgil), St Clare Girls High (Molo), Moi Forces Academy-Lanet (Nakuru North) and Almumin High  (Rongai) among others.
