Rift Valley school games have entered the penultimate stage as defending hockey champions St Joseph’s Girls Kitale secured a spot in the final after defeating Propoi Pokot West 5-0 in the semi-final played at Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi on Tuesday.
Coached by Rosebella Orwaro, the girls displayed a polished game of stick handling, dominating the match to prove that they are indeed the queens coming to showcase their prowess.
Orwaro praised her girls after the match, stating that from there, it’s only the trophy they are aiming for.
In the second semi-final, St Mary’s Chasasis Nandi overcame Hill School UG 4-0, setting up a final clash with St Joseph’s Girls Kitale to determine who will fly the flag of the Rift Valley region.
St Mary’s coach Daniel Kibaba expressed high hopes of clinching the hockey title this year.
In the quarterfinals of basketball, the reigning champions St Joseph’s Girls Kitale defeated Kapropita Girls of Baringo 79-11 to advance to the semi-finals. In the second quarterfinal, Ndururumo Laikipia beat Laiser Hill Girls 35-30 in a tightly contested match at the second basketball court of Kapsabet Boys.
In another basketball quarterfinal, Kaplong Nandi defeated Nakuru Girls 29-23 at Kapsabet Complex in Kapsabet town.
In the handball quarterfinals, St Joseph’s Kitale defeated Nasokol 24-15, Rongenya beat Kessup 21-5, and Murundiko defeated Ngoisa 43-15. These matches were played at ASK Kapsabet Nandi on Tuesday.
In the boys’ handball quarterfinals, defending champions Nabunga of Trans-Nzoia defeated Murundiko 37-21, Ongata Rongai edged out Nakel 27-26, St Mary’s Kitany beat Ortum 16-14, and St Leo Kakuma was defeated by Saniak of Nandi 34-11.
All these matches were played at the Kapsabet Nandi Agricultural Showground.
