Residents of Meru told to procreate more to fill schools

Rindikiri Mugambi, Buuri MP, who has asked residents of his constituency to give birth to more children as school populations are dwindling.

Residents of Kithithina Location of Meru County have been asked to consider expanding their families to address the matter of dwindling population.

Speaking as he distributed bursaries at Kithithina Secondary School, Buuri MP Rindikiri Mugambi expressed concerns over the significant decline in school enrollment.

He lamented that the number of burial ceremonies in the area far exceed the number of weddings, signalling a worrisome trend.

Kithithina Secondary School, located in the MP’s own backyard, currently has approximately 150 students from Form One to Form Four.

“After conducting a comprehensive assessment of churches in the area, I have discovered that there are nine in close proximity. Unfortunately, pastors here attend more burials than weddings,” lamented the legislator.

The MP also condemned the traditional circumcision of boys, locally known as “Kabagine,” dismissing it as archaic and urging residents to prioritize their children’s education instead.

“We need to engage in discussions with men and identify the underlying issues. I refuse to sit idly by. This issue needs to be addressed urgently,” he said.

He announced that he had forcefully assumed the role of patron of Kithithina Secondary School with plans to spearhead its future development.

“The school is collapsing before our very eyes. I have appointed myself as the patron of this institution, taking matters into my own hands. I have instructed the previous principal to seek employment elsewhere as we cannot tolerate non-performance,” an angry Mugambi said.
