As leaning resumes for first term, Unoa Comprehensive Junior School in Makueni head teacher Winfred Sila has called upon the government to reinstate feeding programme in public primary schools as a way of curbing absenteeism among leaners.

Schools in the area have recorded a good turn up of leaners for the new term.

Speaking at the institutions she noted that many leaners come from poor families which can’t afford three meals a day.

Sila thanked the government for constructing Grade 9 classrooms adding that they are of quality and spacious to accommodate the learners.

She as well called upon parents to enrol their pupils at Unoa.

“Currently we have 161 Grade 9 learners who transitioned from Grade 8 in our school. We thank the Ministry of Education through Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) for sponsoring 4 classrooms in our school,” Sila said.
