Registrar of Trade Unions requests for submissions for amendment of KUNOPPET constitution

The Registrar of Trade Unions has issued a notice for the amendment of the Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUNOPPET) constitution. The registrar, Ann Kanake, requested that members of KUNOPPET who object to the constitutional changes present their views.

The notice, dated 6th February 2025, required members to submit any objections in writing within twenty-one (21) days. “The amendments are open for scrutiny at the office of the undersigned during working hours,” she said.

KUNOPPET National Chairman Lawrence Otunga had previously objected to the move to amend the union’s constitution. In a statement dated 22nd January 2025, Otunga claimed there were plans to amend the constitution secretly. He stated that he was unaware of the proposed amendments, arguing that the move was unprocedural, unlawful, and a gross violation of the Labour Relations Act (Section 27(2)(c)).
