Principals of Catholic Schools in Kenya have been urged to uphold catholic values and principles in their respective institutions of learning.

Addressing the principals during 8th edition of the Kenya Catholic Schools Principals Association (CaSPA) conference at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Diocese of Bungoma Bishop Rev. Mark Kadima asked the school heads to prioritize instilling Christian values and catholic teachings to their learners.

The Bishop, who chairs the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission of Education and Religious Education, said that head teachers should uphold catholic identities and be sources of hope, noting that this is where faith flourishes and prayers are key.

Rev. Kadima also urged them to empower their students to excel academically, to value the learners; teach them to have compassion; respect themselves and others and embrace inclusivity to ensure they achieve full potential.

“Give them hope, teach them on the beauty and goodness of humanity, so as to develop compassionate leaders not only with skills but also with moral values to navigate life’s complexities,” he said.

The Reverend urged them to implement practices which protect children and create a culture where safety is paramount, and everyone has a ready listening ear to help them solve personal challenges.

He observed that in 2025 the schools will receive the first Grade 10 learners under CBC and the school heads must be prepared for a smooth transition.

They should also be ready in terms of infrastructure and personnel where teachers should start capacity building to ensure they are well-equipped and fully prepared.

Commission of Education and Religious Education and Auxiliary Bishop Nairobi Rt. Rev. Simon Peter Kamomoe said that the conference gives a platform for sharing experiences and best practices of promoting catholic education in schools.

“This is an important forum to share and enhance leadership, good governance and to share good vision,” he said.

Rev. Kamomoe noted that education and knowledge should be instilled together with character and morality

He asked the teachers to watch out for immoral values mostly propagated by social media.
