President Ruto to rename Sabata Secondary in honour of late former IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati

President William Ruto consoles Mary Chebukati Wanyonyi, wife of late IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.

President William Ruto has announced plans to upgrade Sabata Secondary School in Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, and rename it in honour of the late Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking on yesterday during Chebukati’s burial ceremony, President Ruto praised the late IEBC chair for his dedication to public service and commitment to upholding democracy in Kenya.

He said renaming the school would serve as a lasting tribute to Chebukati’s legacy.

“In recognition of the immense contribution of our late brother Wafula Chebukati to our nation’s democratic process, we will revamp Sabata Secondary School and rename it in his honour. His integrity and patriotism should inspire generations to come,” President Ruto stated.

Leaders at the burial lauded Chebukati, who served as IEBC chair during the 2017 and 2022 general elections, for his unwavering commitment to electoral justice.

The planned facelift of Sabata Secondary School is expected to improve infrastructure and learning conditions, benefiting students in the region.

Leaders and residents welcomed the move, saying it would ensure that Chebukati’s name remains etched in the country’s history.
