Poor roads affecting education in Kisii suburb, teachers lament

Teachers stationed in Keroka town in Nyamira County have decried the poor state of roads within the town.

They complained that the situation had led to a regular increase in fares and route changes from operators of buses, matatus and motorcycles.

“Our transporters are forced to use longer routes to avoid the ragged ones which in turn lead them to ask us for extra money,” said a high school teacher.

School heads from the area told Education News that the poor state of roads had led to absenteeism from teachers and pupils, especially during the rainy season.

Efforts to reach Masaba North TSC Director Sarah Mboga for comment had borne no fruits by the time of publishing the story.

Residents of the border town blamed both Nyamira and Kisii county governments for failure to maintain the roads despite collecting a lot of tax from them.
