Poor girl asks wellwishers to help enroll for her Pharmacy course

Joy Wanjiru works on a rice scheme to raise a little money for upkeep. She is asking wellwishers to save her dream of becoming a Pharmacist as she is unable to enroll for the course she was admitted to do because of poverty.

Joy Wanjiru’s dream of being a Pharmacist is fast receding after she failed to raise the minimum fees required to enrol due to financial constraints.

Wanjiru was placed to the Kenya Methodist University in Meru by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) in 2023.

She passed well in the 2022 KCSE and her dream career was within reach until she realized she might not be able to raise the money needed for enrollment. Now she has to work in farms with the hope of perhaps gathering some money for upkeep if a wellwisher comes along.

She stated that the new funding model was a tricky affair and not easy to understand, so one is apt to make mistakes and miss out on funding altogether.

She had applied for bursaries but has never lucky to get any assistance despite the County Government of Kirinyaga having a kitty for the poor, needy but bright students.

“I have applied for bursaries but has not been lucky to get any money that could facilitate me to join the university,” Wanjiru said, asking Good Samaritans to rescue her from the jaws of poverty.
