Police are pursuing a woman who allegedly killed her child in Migori.

Police in Migori are pursuing a woman from Kebaroti village in Kuria East Constituency who allegedly stabbed her child to death on Saturday night for unknown reasons.

According to neighbours, Veronicah Nchagwa, 23, used a kitchen knife to commit the heinous act.

“Apparently the suspect stabbed her child with a kitchen knife and laid him in bed to die as she vacated the house to go into hiding,” reported area Assistant Chief Joseph Senzo.

The matter was reported to Kehancha Police Station from where detectives were discharged to look for the suspected killer.

Migori-based human rights activist Caroline Marwa called for a thorough search to arrest the suspect and arraign her in court.

“Child abuse and negligence by young single mothers is widespread in this region and there is need for collective efforts for our children to survive,” she said.

Marwa attributed the violence to ignorance on the rights of children and the big number of teenage girls who drop out of school.
