“When we vote, let us look at the character and values of the individual, not where they come from,” he stated.

Addressing the deep-rooted issue of ethnic politics, Lumumba called for a merit-based approach to government appointments.

He stressed the importance of selecting individuals based on qualifications and capability rather than political patronage.

“We must build a society where meritocracy, not political favouritism, determines appointments,” he said.

He urged the youth to demand leadership that upholds such noble principles.

Sense of hope

The message resonated deeply with the audience, sparking a renewed sense of hope and responsibility among the young people.

As the country approaches its future elections, Lumumba’s words have ignited a crucial conversation about the importance of values in leadership.

With his stirring address in Meru, Lumumba has left an indelible mark on the minds of the next generation, inspiring them to hold their leaders to a higher standard of integrity and service to the nation.
