Parents in Bomet County have been urged to create rapport with their children in order to understand the challenges they face.

Governor Hillary Barchok says some parents have been too busy to talk to their children, hence leaving them without guidance.

Speaking in Sotik sub County, Barchok noted that some parents are also very strict, a trend he says makes it had for children to open up.

“Some parents are too busy even to talk to their children. This is so dangerous because if you dont get time for your children, they will end up being misled,” he noted.

At the same time, he cautioned parents against pressurizing their children to get high marks in schools, when they are unable.

Barchok also protested over the high number of suicide among the youths in the region, further urging them to seek help from church leaders when faced by any challenge.

“Dont put a lot of pressure on children to get to get high marks. This can lead to unnecessary pressure and rejection in case they dont meet the targets. Any grade a child gets is important and currently, somebody can start from a certificate and progress to degree,” added Barchok.

Cases of suicide among students have been on the rise in the country, with parents being accused of abdicating their responsibilities.

The sentiments were echoed by local church leaders, who appealed for the establishment and chaplaincy in schools to promote good morals among students.
