Parents in Trans Mara East, Narok County have been told to monitor their children in order to prevent irresponsible behaviour during the long holiday.
Sub-County Director of Education (SCDE) Walter Wanjala said December holidays have many festivities, which could influence children into irresponsible acts.
Speaking in Emurrua Dikkr town, Wanjala noted that teachers did their bit in school and it was now upon parents to do theirs.
“Children have been in the hands of teachers and now they are under parents. We ask our parents to take care of them well. Cases of teen pregnancies have reduced and we ask parents to ensure such cases don’t occur,” he noted.

Deputy County Commissioner John Chirchir echoed the sentiments, warning that any parent abdicating their roles will be prosecuted.
He pointed out that cases of drunkenness among minors have been reported in the area, adding that a crackdown, involving a multi-agency team, will be conducted with the view of getting rid of illicit brews in the sub-county.
“We have reports that the sale and consumption of second generation liquor from the neighbouring county is ongoing here. We will partner with the county government and other agencies to crackdown all businesses which operate without licences and those violating permitted time,” stated Chirchir.
