Parents told to help children nurture talent at a young age

Duke Mainga, former culture CECM in Kisii County. He has asked parents to help their children nurture their talents at a young age.

Parents and teachers have been asked to encourage children to develop talents in their formative ages by helping them to identify, refine and exploit those gifts for their social and economic development.

Former Kisii County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for culture, gender, youth and sports Duke Manga Mainga noted that most adults concentrate much on coaching students on academic excellence, forgetting that they also need to venture into other fields.

Mainga was addressing parents, music enthusiasts and artistes in Kisii town, revealing that his foundation targets to equip the youth with sustainable knowledge to enable them thrive in the ever changing world.

He asked both university and secondary school leavers not to sit at home and wait for luck but instead involve themselves in small profit-making businesses like poultry keeping, vegetable farming, gardening and second hand clothes trade to enable them get startup capital.

He asked the government to establish a common financial pool to support youth with exceptional talents in music and entertainment.
