Parents in Baringo Central, Baringo County have been told they will be sought out and arrested if their children are found loitering around town during the long holiday.
Area Police boss Christine Kola said during holidays, the area usually records a high number of loitering minors, a trend she says won’t be tolerated this time round.
According to Kola, loitering exposes children to various dangers, some of which she said exposes them to various risks.
“During holidays, the number of children loitering is usually high. Loitering exposes children to various evils and this must be prevented,” she noted.
Speaking in Kabarnet town, she pointed out that parents have a duty of protecting their children, cautioning against abdicating the roles.

Kola warned that those found loitering will be arrested, adding that police should not be blamed for carrying out such arrests.
“We will carry out patrols and children found loitering will be arrested. Police are usually blamed for doing their work, which should not be the case. This holiday is long and I want parents to do their parental roles as required to prevent irresponsible acts,” noted Kola.
Officer in Charge of the Kabarnet Prison Chesang Chelimo echoed the sentiments, decrying the high number of defilement convicts at the facility.
Chelimo, while revealing the various sentences served by the convicts, appealed for concerted efforts to tackle defilement, stating that local leaders have been silent on the matter despite its serious implications.
“Defilement convicts form the highest percentage of prisoners in Kabarnet. Sadly, leaders don’t speak about this matter. Defilement ruins the health and future of girls and we need concerted efforts to end this evil,” noted Chelimo.
