Tension gripped Komahill Kikamba Primary School in Matungulu sub-county, Machakos County, yesterday as enraged parents staged demonstrations to protest the abrupt transfer of their headteacher, Timothy Mweu.

The agitated parents lit bonfires and blocked the busy Nairobi-Kangundo road for hours, disrupting traffic as they demanded Mweu’s reinstatement.

Despite being at the school for only five months, the head teacher had won their hearts due to notable improvements in academics and infrastructure.

An uproar erupted after word spread that Augustine Mawathe, the head teacher of Koma Ranch Primary School, was replacing Mweu.

The parents fiercely opposed the move, arguing that her former school’s community had rejected Mawathe and was nearing retirement.

“Komahill will not accept teachers who have been rejected elsewhere. We want our headteacher back, or we will withdraw our children from the school. Mweu has done a commendable job in the short time he has been here, so why is he being transferred before even completing a year?” questioned one of the parents.

Another parent, echoing similar sentiments, expressed concerns over Mawathe’s track record.

“She was removed from her former school, and some of us even transferred our children from Koma Ranch because of her harsh leadership. Why bring her here when she is about to retire?”

By the time of reporting, the standoff had remained unresolved. Parents were camping at the school gate alongside their children, vowing not to leave until their demands were met.
