Parents asked to protect their children during December holidays

Parents in Busia County and Kenya at large have been urged to protect their children during the long December holidays.

Addressing parents, teachers, pupils and education stakeholders during the graduation ceremony at Chawo Star Academy in Port Victoria town, Budalang’i, on Thursday October 31, 2024, Busia County Kenya Private Schools Association Chairman Kevin Ochieng said parents have a duty to protect their children against wiles that are likely to deter them from continuing with education.

One of them is early pregnancies, which has forced many girls in the county to drop out of school prematurely.

“As parents, we have a mandatory duty to ensure we protect our children from exploitation this long third term holiday,” he said.

He lauded the teachers of Chawo Star Academy for their dedication and commitment to duty that has always enabled the private learning institution established sixteen years ago to perform well in national exams.

The director Mwajuma Burale, who is also the Bunyala Sub-county private schools chairlady, on her part urged parents to encourage their children to work hard.

“Learning is a continuous process. I would like to call upon our good parents to ensure their children keep on studying by engaging our hardworking and dedicated teachers to coach them during the long holidays,” she said.

The 16th graduation ceremony was attended by Zigma Academy Director Margaret Juma, who lauded the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) as the best system that should be commended by all.
