On Thursday (yesterday), education stakeholders from Isoge village in Borabu Constituency spent the whole day collecting funds for the completion of a library. Led by Charles Mayenga and the alumni of Itumbe SDA Secondary School, they raised more than KSh 1.7 million towards the completion of a library room to benefit both the school and the community.
Mr. Mayenga said that his team was determined to uplift education standards in the area by constructing libraries, laboratories, and equipping them, as they believe this is the best way of giving back to society.
“The society has brought us up, and the best way we can appreciate it and support their children is by creating an enabling environment for them to work in and achieve quality education for sustenance,” he said.
He asked parents to come together and form groups with common objectives, such as embracing modern farming practices to enhance food security in the country and providing better education for their children, instead of depending on empty rhetoric from politicians.
He mentioned that his group started small by constructing one library but had since completed three, spread evenly across the constituency.
Nelson Omwenga, one of the parents, said that the current economic struggle in the country has made it difficult for the government to accomplish all development projects in various parts of the country. He asked residents to avoid total dependence on the government to do everything for them.

“Borabu will not be built by outsiders, but by our children. I thank this team for their good work,” he said.
He added that the region is endowed with fertile soils that support all types of agriculture. He urged residents to diversify their agricultural activities instead of depending solely on tea, which may not withstand adverse conditions like prolonged droughts.
He also asked the area MP, Patrick Osero, to prioritize education and agriculture in his development agenda, as these are the backbone of any meaningful development.
