Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has launched the distribution of bursaries worth over Ksh41 million to support underprivileged secondary school students in the region.
Achani announced that the bursary will cater for 6,189 beneficiaries across 14 Wards.
The governor said that her administration is dedicated to ensuring that all disadvantaged students have equal access to educational opportunities.
She said despite financial constraints experienced in counties, her administration remains firm in supporting parents with school fees.
“We are all aware of the challenges facing our country, including our limited resources. Despite the financial constraints, we decided as a government to preserve the education budget to ensure that our children go to school,” said Achani.
The governor said that the bursaries are being issued through the ‘Elimu Ni Sasa’ bursaries programme, which was initiated by former two-term Governor Salim Mvurya in 2013.

She said the initiative aligns with her agenda to empower bright but needy students through education, enabling them to contribute productively to society.
The governor expressed optimism that the funds will make a significant difference in the lives of students and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the region.
She assured parents and students that the Kwale government would ensure that no child stays at home due to an inability to pay school fees.
Achani said the government plans to provide targeted financial support and scholarships to families in need, and will work closely with local schools to identify and assist students facing financial hardships.
The county chief further encouraged students across the county to make full use of the bursaries in shaping their futures.
