Some 189,000 teachers have applied for the ongoing teacher promotional interviews for teachers by Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The Commission intends to promote over 19,000 teachers across the country.
The vacancies include 9,179 slots for post-primary schools and 16,109 for primary teachers.
The exercise started on January 13, 2025, and will end on February 7.
In an internal notice, the Commission has said that the sub-county level some 96,640 teachers have been undergoing interviews that started on January 13 and will end tomorrow to pay way for the post-primary teachers’ interviews.
Some 44, 043 post primary teachers in Job Group C3 to D2 will attend interviews at the county level from January 27 to February 7, 2024.
Principal and teachers in Job Groups D3-D5 totaling over 7,2oo will be interviewed at regional headquarters starting January 27- February 7, 2024 as well.
“There are three levels of interviews: Sub-county, where 96640 teachers were shortlisted for the primary school vacancies; county level, where 44,043 teachers in C3 to D2 grades will be interviewed; and Regional level, where Principals and teachers in D3 to D5 grades will be interviewed,” TSC notice said.
Last year, TSC promoted 36,505 teachers to higher grades.

The Commission gave a detailed report on the number of school heads to be promoted per category in the job vacancies advertised in an advert signed by the Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Nancy Macharia.

In the advert in December last year, the Commission target to promote a total of 44 Chief Principals (Regular School), 3 Chief Principals for Teacher Training Colleges (TTC), 126 Senior Principals (Regular School), 3 Senior Principals for TTCs, 652 Principals (Regular School) and 3 Deputy Principal I (TTC).
TSC is also looking for 786 Deputy Principal II (Secondary School), 13 Senior Lecturer I (TTC), 1,408 Deputy Principal III(Regular School), 32 Senior Lecturer II (TTC), 2 Senior Master II (secondary SNE), 1,987 Senior Master III (Regular School), 61 Senior Lecturer III (TTC) and 6 Senior Master III (secondary SNE).
Others include: 2,221 Senior Master IV, 70 Senior Lecturer IV (TTC), 184 Secondary Teacher I(Diploma teachers only), 7 Lecturer I, 254 Senior Head teacher (Regular), 7 Senior Head teacher (SNE), 2,130 Headteacher (Regular School), 33 Head Teacher (SNE Primary School).
Another 3,653 Deputy Head-teacher II (Regular Primary School), 33 Deputy Head-teacher II (SNE), 4,703 Senior Teacher I (Regular Primary School), 77 Senior Teacher I (SNE Primary School), 1,364 Senior Teacher II (Regular Primary School) and 81 Senior Teacher II (SNE Primary School).
