A day after the controversial Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi openly admitted to being wealthy, another viral video surfaced on social media. This time, it showed him giving KSh 50,000 to a volunteer teacher for a job well done. This act of generosity, following his public admission of wealth, has not gone unnoticed.
While addressing students, Sudi called the teacher forward and praised her for her perseverance over the past three years, assuring the students that he would support her beyond just financial help. “Nitampanga yeye atakaa vizuri kama hawa wengine (I will help her until she lives a better life like other teachers),” he stated. Recently, Oscar Sudi has been on a giving spree, which has made him a favorite among many, especially his constituents.
For Sudi, affluence is the norm, and he is surrounded by money, power, and the controversies that accompany both. His actions have sparked a spectrum of reactions among Kenyans. While some have praised him for his generosity, others have criticized him for what they view as a misuse of public resources. This diversity of opinions reflects the complex social fabric of Kenya.

In his defense, Sudi stated, “When people say you have money, don’t deny it. Yes, I have a lot of money. But money alone doesn’t bless everyone. We are the angels of God here on earth, and we lift each other up.” However, this wasn’t always his narrative.
Not too long ago, Sudi shared a glimpse of his humble beginnings. He revealed that his father was a charcoal dealer and his family lived modestly. “My parents were squatters in the Moi University area, and all we had was a grass-thatched house on the farm of Mzee Kibor arap Talai, who allowed us to stay there temporarily. I used to sleep in the kitchen with my two brothers,” he previously told the Nairobian. This personal narrative sheds light on his journey from a grass-thatched house to his current wealth.
