Governor Mutahi Kahiga yesterday bid farewell to the fifth cohort of interns who successfully completed their one-year paid internship at the Nyeri County Government.
During that period, the interns gained practical, hands-on experience by working closely with supervisors and engaging in projects from inception to execution.
The county government also provided training sessions on various topics, including the devolved government structure, the County Government Act, national values and principles, public ethics, the code of conduct, drug and substance abuse in the workplace, and human resource policies.

The Department of County Public Service Management closely monitored the progress of the interns, facilitating mentorship and organizing training sessions to enhance their professional growth. This approach ensured that the interns received meaningful experiences while contributing to county operations and service delivery.
The programme placed a strong emphasis on both professional development and skills enhancement. Interns gained practical experience relevant to their fields of study, improved technical skills, and developed essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving.
As a result of the programme, 20 interns were absorbed into the county government workfore, while 23 others secured positions in public and private organizations of their choice.
“On October 2 last year, 199 interns were appointed by the County Public Service Board to serve at the County Government of Nyeri. Out of these, 191 reported to work immediately. A year later, 20 interns have been absorbed into the county government after successfully undergoing interviews in accordance with County Public Service Board regulations,” Kahiga said.
The remaining 148 received certificates and recommendation letters, marking the programme’s success in achieving its primary goal of youth empowerment and skills development.
Governor Kahiga encouraged the departing interns to be good ambassadors of the County Government of Nyeri, assuring them they will be considered for future job openings due to the skills they have acquired.
