According to Mr. Lawrence Karuntimi, the Regional Director of Education for Nyanza, Phase One of the construction of Grade Nine classrooms is complete across the region, and Phase Two is already 88% finished.
Speaking during his visit to Bondo Township Primary School to commission the newly constructed Grade Nine classrooms, the Regional Director added that they are only waiting for the allocation of funds for Phase Three to complete the constructions before the start of the year.
Regarding the supply of Grade Nine textbooks, Mr. Karuntimi confirmed that they are at 100%, noting that the government has distributed the books to all schools across the Nyanza region.
He assured that they are ready to welcome Grade Eight students as they graduate to Grade Nine in January 2025 for their final year of Junior Secondary.
Mr. Karuntimi also mentioned that training for Grade Nine teachers has been completed across the Nyanza region.
Additionally, the Regional Director expressed confidence that the government’s decision to absorb all interns and employ an additional 20,000 teachers will help address the teacher shortage in Junior Secondary schools across the country.
Earlier, he had commissioned similar classrooms at Bar-Muofu Primary School, also in Bondo Sub-county.
