Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers in Nyamira have given a notice of strike unless they are paid their delayed salaries that have accumulated for two years.
The concerned teachers who spoke in Nyamira town said they have not been paid their salaries for the last two years and accused Governor Amos Nyaribo’s government of corruption.
“The government has failed to convert our contracts into permanent and pensionable terms and still keeps on exploiting through non-payment of what belongs to us,” said Janet Moraa, an aggrieved teacher.
She claimed that they have written several letters to the governor to intervene and alleviate their suffering but their requests keep on landing on deaf years.

They accused the executive for education Emily Ongaga for dragging her feet on their concerns, threatening to storm her office and ejecting her for indifference to their plight.
The teachers said they devotedly offer good services and asked the government to reciprocate by paying instead of frustrating them, saying they have faced the wrath of landlords and have failed to provide basics for their families.
“We live in debt and our friends have turned to calling us names that we do not deserve,” lamented Alfred Mokaya, another teacher.
The ECDE teachers’ threat to down tools comes amidst the secondary school teachers’ strike that is today entering day 4 in defiance of a court order that was issued two days ago.
