The newly posted Principal of St Padre Pio Nthia Secondary School, Charles Mwania, in Makindu Sub- county, has said he is optimistic about the school’s transformation.
Speaking from his office, the principal who was transferred from AIC Mwaani Ilima in Kilungu sub-county, expressed his deep appreciation for his predecessor’s hard work. He acknowledged the school’s humble beginnings as a sub-county school and progress it has made.
He said that the school has surpassed even well-known county and extra-county schools garnering a Mean score of 5.64 this year and 21 students qualifying for university out of 72 candidates in 2024 KCSE.
He noted that he has introduced a slogan of 30 plus, which means they are focusing on taking over 30 students to university next year.

“I have a vision for the school and a huge passion for the child, and that’s why we want to ensure our syllabus is covered by April. Then we start revision and regular, timely marked exams,” said the principal.
Being a day school, they have to work extra hours for remedial, especially for the week students to be at par with the others. Teacher and student motivation is highly considered as well as improving on learning environment.
Nthia Secondary is planning to extend revision hours for day scholars by providing lunch on Saturdays. This initiative aims to maximize students’ learning time by eliminating the need for a lunch break.
With a population of 287, the school needs a kitchen, dining hall, boys’ dormitory, water problem, fence, and general face-lifting.
“In terms of staff, I can say we are okay. The school is outstanding and has the potential of doing better,” said the principal.
