Newly elected Maasai Mara University student leaders sworn in

The Vice Chancellor of Maasai Mara University, Prof Peninah Aloo Obudho, led the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected student leaders at the Conference Hall yesterday, attended by over 700 students.

Prof Obudho congratulated the leaders on their peaceful election and thanked the student body for placing their trust in them to lead for the coming year. She urged them to honor that trust and emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue on issues affecting students.

Prof assured them of her support and reiterated that they play a key role in transforming the university.  Dean of Students Mohammed Adan said election process smoothly and commended the students for conducting their campaigns and elections peacefully, demonstrating a mature practice of democracy.

He highlighted that those who were defeated accepted their losses gracefully, congratulating the winners and promising to collaborate as comrades of Maasai Mara University.

Adan pointed out that today’s swearing-in marked the end of the electoral process that began on January 15, 2025, explaining that although the swearing-in was initially scheduled for February 18, it had to be moved to today, February 17, due to the Vice Chancellor’s prior commitments.

He advised the newly elected team that they have much work ahead of them, as the expectations from their peers are high. He encouraged them to work closely with their opponents to meet these expectations on behalf of the student body and to maintain the spirit of comradeship.

Aron Simiyu, the new Secretary General, told students that his position is not merely a title but a commitment to amplifying their voices and grievances.

He declared that delivering for the students is their primary agenda and that he would defend their rights through all constitutional means. Simiyu concluded by urging all comrades to maintain peace and unity among themselves, reminding them that political campaigns are now over.
