New school established in Bungoma to address congestion in neighbouring schools

Residents of Sango in Maraka Ward, Bungoma County have received exciting news with the launch of a new secondary school constructed to address overcrowding in surrounding schools.

The new school will ease pressure on Muji Secondary, St Matthews ACK, and St Paul’s Secondary School, which have been struggling with high enrollment and limited resources.

During the launch ceremony, Webuye East MP Martin Pepela Wanyonyi praised the establishment of the school, saying it will enhance access to education.

“I am happy that this school will decongest many schools around and help our boys and girls who have been walking long distances in search of education. This is especially crucial for girls, as early morning walks to school can sometimes pose risks,” Wanyonyi said.

Wanyonyi committed to supporting the school’s registration as a public institution and announced plans to pay school fees for the first 38 students, along with others who will enrol.

“I will send my staff along with the principal to fill the necessary forms for bursaries, ensuring that every student get Ksh 5,000 school fees.

This initiative will not only help attract more students but will also ensure that we meet the required number for the school to be registered as a public institution and qualify for government capitation,” he added.

Dr Paul Rono, the Webuye East Sub-county Education Director, supported the initiative, saying it would increase the number of secondary schools in the area to 28, still inadequate for the student population.

“This will increase the number of secondary schools in the sub county to 28, which is still too few considering the large number of students in our area who, at times, have to attend schools in neighboring Sub-Counties like Lugari, Kimilili, and Webuye West,” Dr Rono said.

Area MCA Ali Machani Mutoka emphasized the importance of collaboration among local leaders for community development.

Community members, including area chief Samwel Kisuya, expressed gratitude for the new school, which they believe will enhance educational opportunities.

Bungoma East KNUT Secretary General Robert Mandila urged residents to consider selling land for the school’s expansion to ensure easier access to education for local children.
