Nyamira County Government has released KSh66 million to help needy but bright students to access quality education in secondary schools.

Governor Amos Nyaribo while speaking at Nyamira’s Uhuru Gardens on Tuesday, July 9 2024 where he presided over the issuance of cheques to the beneficiaries said that the money was meant for form one and two students.

Nyaribo said that students in form three and four will receive their funding next year.

“We conduct this exercise in phases. This time it was for those in the lower forms,” he said.

He asked the beneficiaries to work hard in class so as to convince the bursary providers that they were worth the help noting that there are a lot of students in the county who depend on the funds to facilitate their education.

However, the governor warned that indiscipline cases among the beneficiaries that will be reported from their respective schools will lead to automatic withdrawal of the scholarship and it will be diverted and channeled to deserving and obedient students.

Nyaribo further appealed to the residents to pay taxes promptly to enable the government to discharge its services efficiently.

At the same time, Member of the County Assembly Nyamira Township Ward Duke Masira who was present at the event reiterated that the funds were a token from the county government and cannot satisfy all the needs of the learner.

Masira asked the parents and guardians of students to top up the funds to clear any fee arrears owed to schools to enable their children to concentrate in class with ease.

He further urged the parents and guardians to monitor the movement of their children when they are at home and at school for their  healthy upbringing.
