Students at various levels of education in Elgeyo Marakwet are set to benefit from KSh98 million bursaries allocated by the county government.
The announcement has been welcomed by students, parents and guardians who demanded transparency in the disbursement.
Education Executive Member Edwin Ruto Sorei says the amount was increased from last year’s KSh95 million so as to benefit more students.
Addressing the press, Sorei observed that the county was keen on ensuring all students access education irrespective of their family backgrounds.
“We have allocated KSh98 million for bursaries this year. This is up from KSh95 million for last year,” he pointed out.

He asked those who have not applied to do so immediately, assuring that application forms are available at all county offices.
He announced that the vetting exercise will hold on 7-20, and asked applicants to familiarise themselves with the dates so that they don’t miss out.
“Vetting of applicants will take place on January 7 and January 20. I hereby ask applicants to ask when the vetting will take place in their areas. We don’t want anyone to miss out,” added Sorei.
Ruto further challenged the vetting committees to ensure the exercise is above board, reiterating that the county was keen on ensuring no student is left out.
