National conference for JSS set for tomorrow in Tenwek Boys

Tenwek Boys, the venue for this year's JSS conference that kicks off tomorrow and takes four days.

A four-day national conference for Junior Secondary School (JSS) is set to be held in Tenwek Boys High School in Bomet County tomorrow.

The conference, which runs from 3rd to 7th, is part of the preparations for the commencement of the Senior School that kicks off in 2026.

Tenwek High School Principal Mutali Chesebe said the conference was organized by the Ministry of Education through the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

“Grade 7 and 8 learners will gather here for 4 days to be guided on issues relating to Senior School in 2026. The responsibility of preparing students squarely lies with teachers hence should not be left to others,” he said, inviting parents and grade 7 and 8 learners and stating that several schools from across the country have confirmed attendance.

He expressed hope the conference will be beneficial, adding that renowned personalities, who include retired principals and KICD and other education officers will grace the occasion.

“I want to invite parents and all grade 7 and 8 learners here in our school. Registration will go on here in school and some schools from Nairobi, Western, Kisumu and Uasin Gishu have confirmed attendance,” he stated.

Chesebe said teachers have a role to prepare students, adding that Tenwek, being a national school, hosts this year’s conference because it has the capacity to accommodate all participants.

“Such a conference was held at Alliance High School between 2012 and 2016 and we have brought it here because Tenwek is a national school. We have the capacity to accommodate all students. Retired Kakamega High School principal Oliver Minishi, his Alliance counterpart Peter Khaemba and other professionals and education officers will be here,” said Chesebe.
