Narok County government intends to increase the amount of money allocated for bursaries yearly to benefit as many students as possible.
Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu says Ksh450 million has been set aside this financial year, with each ward receiving at least Ksh11 million.
Speaking during the issuance of bursary cheques in Emurrua Dikkr, he said the amount of allocation was based on the number of students and the size of the ward.
“We have set aside Ksh450 for bursaries this year and Emurrua Dikkr will get Ksh50 million. Our vision is to ensure no student remains home due to lack of fees,” he noted.
According to him, Emurua Dikkr received Ksh50 million, with Ololmasani and Ilkerin wards receiving the lion’s share due to the size of the units. He assured of transparency in the disbursement, stating that parents and guardians will receive text messages on the amount of bursaries their children have received.
“All wards will receive between Ksh11 and 13 million based on their size. Ilkerin and Ololmasani will get Ksh13 million because they are big wards. We intend to increase bursaries every year,” added Ntutu.
Ntutu pointed out that 23 students got full scholarships, adding that his administration is working with the national government to ensure the programme succeeds.

Area MP Johanna Ngeno lauded the County government for the bursaries, adding that the use of cheques will eliminate corruption and ensure all funds reach the intended schools.
“Which leader has ever given bursaries like this? We have many youths here who dropped out of school due to lack of fees. This will no longer happen under Ntutu. Cheques will end corruption which had been witnessed before, where only Ksh3,000 out of 5,000 could reach school,” noted Ngeno.
