Nakuru Boys High School has been closed indefinitely following yesterday night student unrest over management issues and food.

Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara confirmed that the order had been restored and that the students had been sent home for a week before further instructions could be given.

The students were sent home today morning after a meeting to discuss the unrest.

“There was massive destruction of property at the school, and the damage is being assessed. Calm has been restored, and the students sent home,” said Kibaara.

It was reported that the violent protests, which began around 9 pm, lasted over three hours.

The students destroyed the school bus, classrooms, dining hall dormitories, and the administration block.

The boys also broke into the dining hall and storage room, where they stole food, and some students ate food items in the storage.

Another source said the strike was fostered by the management’s decision to allegedly introduce card payments instead of money at the school canteen.
