Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo has urged parents to discourage their children from joining the ongoing unrest between the Nyabitunwa and Transmara communities.

He said some youths were getting involved in the skirmishes for fun without understanding the serious consequences of their actions.

The MP made these remarks at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital on Tuesday, during his visit to the casualties of the conflict between residents of Kenyenya and Transmara West sub counties.

The unrest, which began last week over disputes regarding cattle theft and land, escalated into violent clashes involving arrows, spears, and stones. The violence has reportedly left two people dead and more than 20 injured, with some of the victims admitted to hospitals across the region.

Mr. Barongo also visited Mayaka Hospital in Magena town near Kilgoris, where he asked the administration to transfer the seriously injured to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.

“I asked them to release those who were seriously injured to seek treatment in Kisii,” he said.

Among the injured, a Form Three student who was shot in the hip by his attackers was treated and discharged to be monitored at home.

The MP noted that the two communities had lived in peace for the past 24 years and urged them to reflect on the current situation and restore their peaceful coexistence.

“We are going to work hand in hand with my Kilgoris counterpart to call for peace meetings that will help identify the root causes of this conflict and stop it,” he said.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Keses confirmed that normalcy had returned to the troubled area but warned residents from both sides not to take the law into their own hands. “The police will deal with individual lawbreakers, so be careful with your actions,” he said.

He also urged residents to report any lawbreakers within their communities to the police for investigation and legal action.
