MP wants more land marked out for expansion of TVC

There is an urgent need for the community around Township TVC to get more land for expansion to accommodate its growing population, Ainamoi MP Benjamin Lang’at has said.

He said he has already liaised with like-minded individuals to secure more land for this purpose.

“AS leaders from the area, we have to team up with all the stakeholders and seek all possible avenues that will see this college get more land for putting up infrastructure facilities and also get enough playing fields,” he said.

The MP, speaking during a tour of the facility situated near Annex Prison, handed over a cheque worth Ksh7 million from the NGCDF to cater for bursaries of 1000 students currently studying at the TVC.

The legislator, who is credited with the founding of the TVC, confessed to his desire to see the institute expand and cater for more students from the entire county of Kericho.

The principal Shadrack Tonui took the opportunity to pass his gratitude, saying there was need for more space to accommodate the surging numbers, which he attributed to an acceptance by the community of the concept of technical education.

“We are now receiving large numbers of students due to change in perception by our community on the idea of technical skills acquisition. It has now changed for the better,” he said.

He said the TVC urgently needs a playground since they have spent huge amounts of money hiring the Kericho Green Stadium or other neighbouring fields for their activities.

Ainamoi NGCDF Chairman Philip Kemei urged students to utilize the bursary well by working hard and achieving good results, which will make them marketable locally and internationally.

Student President Duncan Cheruiyot appealed to the leaders to purchase a bus for the institute to ease its transportation challenges.

Kericho Township TVC is among the second set of 60 public TVET institutions constructed following enactment of TVET Act 2013. It is also the 5th in Kericho County.
